Frequently asked questions
What do I need to use Jotwise?
An iPad with iPadOS 27. We recommend Apple Pencil for writing; you can also use your finger or the keyboard.
Apple Intelligence suggestions need a compatible iPad. Without it, the rest of the app works the same.
How do the trial and the subscription work?
Writing in Jotwise requires an annual subscription. If you haven’t used the trial yet, you start with 7 days free with everything. When it ends, you’re charged the annual price the App Store shows in your country, to your Apple Account.
The subscription renews automatically every year unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the period (or of the trial, if you don’t want to be charged).
The Terms of Use have the details.
How do I cancel my subscription?
Go to iPadOS Settings › your name › Subscriptions, choose Jotwise, and cancel. You can also tap “Manage subscription” in Jotwise (Settings › Your subscription, or on the subscription sheet), which opens the same Apple screen.
Canceling stops renewals. You keep access until the end of the period you already paid for. If you cancel during the trial, do it at least 24 hours before it ends so you aren’t charged.
What happens if I don’t renew?
Your notes are still yours: you can always open, read, search, export, and delete them. What pauses is writing and editing. When you subscribe again, you can write again.
If what failed was the payment for a renewal, Apple keeps trying for a while. Until the payment goes through, the app is read-only; check your payment method in “Manage subscription,” and once the payment goes through, you can write again without doing anything else.
How do I restore my subscription on another iPad?
Open Jotwise on the other iPad, signed in with the same Apple Account you subscribed with, go to Settings › Your subscription, and tap “Restore purchases.” The button is also on the subscription sheet.
How do I request a refund?
Apple handles charges and refunds, and Apple decides. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com.
How do I use iCloud?
Go to Settings › iCloud and turn on “Sync with iCloud.” Your notebooks are copied to your private iCloud and appear on your other devices signed in to the same Apple Account. We can’t access your iCloud.
You need to be signed in to iCloud in iPadOS Settings. Without an account, the app works just the same and your notebooks stay on this iPad.
I got a new iPad. How do I move my notebooks?
With iCloud sync on and the same Apple Account, they appear on their own.
If you don’t use iCloud, export each notebook as a .bujo file, send it to the other iPad (with AirDrop or Files), and import it in Jotwise.
How do I delete my data?
In Jotwise, go to Settings › Privacy › Delete all my data. Your notebooks, folders, pages, tasks, and custom symbols are deleted from this iPad and, if you use iCloud, from your other devices and your iCloud. This can’t be undone.
To delete just one page or notebook, do it from the app. If you delete the app, iPadOS removes what was saved on the iPad; what’s synced to iCloud is managed in iPadOS Settings › your name › iCloud.
We don’t keep copies of your notebooks, because we never receive them.
The app misread a symbol. How do I fix it?
Tap the clean symbol that appears next to the one you wrote and choose the right type. Your correction stays even when the page is read again, and your ink doesn’t change.
How do I back up or export a notebook?
You can export each notebook as a PDF, Markdown, or a .bujo file from the app and save it wherever you like.
What data does Jotwise collect?
None. Your handwriting is read on your iPad, there are no accounts, and the app has no analytics, no ads, and no third-party code that sends data. The details are in the privacy policy.
