Jotwise Privacy Policy

Effective October 13, 2026.

Jotwise is an iPad notebook that reads what you write by hand. It’s made by Jotwise SpA, in Chile (“we”). This policy explains what happens to what you write and to the other data the app touches.

In short

  • We don’t collect data. The app doesn’t connect to any server we run, there’s no account to create, and it has no analytics, no ads, and no third-party code that sends data.
  • Your handwriting is read on your iPad. Handwriting recognition and the Apple Intelligence features run on the device.
  • Your notebooks are saved on your iPad and, if you turn on sync, in your private iCloud, which we can’t access.
  • You decide when to delete everything, right from the app.

What you write

Your notebooks, pages, ink, the text the app recognizes, your tasks, your symbols, and your folders are saved in the app’s storage on your iPad. They aren’t sent to us or to anyone else.

iCloud sync. If you turn it on (app Settings › iCloud), your notebooks are copied to the private iCloud database of your Apple Account so you can see them on your other devices. Apple runs that database under its own privacy policy, and we can’t read it. You can turn sync off at any time.

What you export. If you export a notebook (PDF, Markdown, or a .bujo file), the file goes wherever you choose (Files, AirDrop, Mail, or another app). From there, that app or service handles it.

What the app does on your iPad

  • Handwriting recognition. It uses Apple’s recognition technology built into iPadOS and runs on the device. No images or strokes are sent to any service.
  • Apple Intelligence (optional). On iPads that have it, the app can suggest searches, summaries, or reminders using Apple’s on-device models. Your content doesn’t leave your iPad for this, and we don’t share it with any third-party AI service. For some language features, iPadOS may download resources from Apple; that download doesn’t include your content.
  • Search, Spotlight, Siri, and widgets. The search index and what Spotlight, Siri, Shortcuts, and the widget show are built on your iPad. The widget reads the app’s data on the same iPad.
  • Notifications. Task reminders are local notifications scheduled by your iPad. iPadOS asks for your permission before the first one.
  • Reminders and Calendar. Only when you tap “Send to Reminders” or “Send to Calendar.” For Reminders, iPadOS asks for your permission; the app saves the identifier of the reminder it created on your iPad so it doesn’t duplicate it, and it only looks at reminders it created. For Calendar, the system event editor opens and the app doesn’t read your calendar.

Subscription

The free trial and the annual subscription go through the App Store’s purchase system. Apple processes the charge, the renewal, and the cancellation, and handles payment details; we never see or receive them. The app checks on your iPad, using what the App Store reports, whether your subscription is active, and it stores on the iPad only whether it is and until when. Apple gives us aggregated sales information under its own rules.

Diagnostics

The app has no analytics or crash-reporting tools. If you chose in iPadOS Settings to share analytics with app developers, Apple may give us crash and performance reports that don’t identify you. iPadOS controls that, and you can turn it off in Settings › Privacy & Security › Analytics & Improvements.

Third parties

We don’t share data with anyone, because the app doesn’t send us any. The app has no ads, no third-party code that collects or sends data, and no tracking across apps or websites.

How long data is kept and how to delete it

What you write is kept until you delete it:

  • Delete a page or a notebook in the app.
  • App Settings › Privacy › Delete all my data deletes your notebooks, folders, pages, tasks, and custom symbols from this iPad and, if you use iCloud, from your other devices and your iCloud.
  • If you delete the app, iPadOS deletes what was saved on this iPad. Synced data can also be managed in iPadOS Settings › your name › iCloud.

To stop granting a permission (Reminders, notifications), change it in iPadOS Settings › Jotwise. To stop sending your notebooks to iCloud, turn off sync in app Settings › iCloud.

This website

jotwise.io doesn’t use cookies, analytics, or third-party content. Like any website, its hosting service may log technical data about each visit (for example, the IP address) to run and protect the service; we don’t use it to track you or combine it with anything else.

If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you write in the message. We use it only to reply to you and we don’t share it.

Children

The app doesn’t ask anyone for data, including minors.

Changes to this policy

If anything in this policy changes, we’ll publish the new version at this same address, with its date. If the app ever started collecting data, we’d say so first in the app and on the App Store listing.
